About Kissaki Kai |
Kissaki is karate for the REAL world
The sword was considered to be the "Soul" of the Samurai, and the blade itself a venerated object of both beauty
and deadly efficiency; a fusion of harmony and function.
The Kissaki is the term for the deadly sharp cutting edge of the very tip.
Kissaki-Kai Karate-Do was founded by Vince Morris, now 8th Dan of Nottingham, Great Britain in March 1993 at the
behest of senior black belt members who had become disillusioned with what the "traditional" karate schools had
to offer in terms of "real" fighting techniques.
At most, many karate schools boasted that they were champions of this and that competition, and they were just
that, champions of a competition, where rules and regulations prohibited the use of real, effective techniques
in the sporting arena. And rightly so, as these techniques were highly dangerous and some even lethal when
applied properly.
'Kissaki Kai is not like fighting an opponent, it is an execution.'
Kissaki Kai has taken karate back to its origins, past the point-scoring sports forms, and right back to the art
of self-defense it once was.
Kissaki teaches the fundamental 5 elements of Combat.
- Ne-waza - Groundwork, grappling
- Nage-waza - Throwing techniques
- Atemi-waza - Vital point striking
- Shime-waza - Choking techniques
- Kansetsu-waza - Joint Locking Techniques
The application of these waza are being guided by the Rules of Combat and the bunkai (applications) hidden in the
ancient kata.
...I encourage you to spread the word regarding the value of Kata training and what it
really teaches a student. Too many karateka think that there is fighting and then there is kata for "form".
Kata is fighting.....the problem as I see it is that much of the true knowledge that Kata is trying to
teach has been obscured by years of myth and misunderstanding by most instructors. I hope that with the
expansion of the internet and the opening up of communications between martial artists, we can all have
availability to your instruction.

The Rules of Combat
Rules of Combat - The Development Of Warrior Tactics
Described as a "Modern Book of Five Rings" it serves as a guide for students and instructors on the journey to
principle based training and mastery of their skills.
All fights, large battles or individual encounters, follow certain rules. And if you know the rules, you can win
any fight. Here are some examples:
Rule #4: Never stop until it's over - Would you walk away from a fight in which the assailant still has a
weapon and can use it against you again?
Rule #7: Never fight at the same speed - Do not let a fight deteriorate into a one-for-one exchange of
blows. Once you have started your techniques, the assailant should have no window of opportunity to regain
the initiative.
Rule #12: A lock is only a prelude - In many dojos techniques are only practiced in isolation. For a more
realistic training you must remember that a hold or a lock is often only a prelude to control or finish, not the
control or finish itself.
The Rules of Combat can help you to structure your techniques in a way that maximises your chances to win any
confrontation. These rules are principles that can be applied to any martial art, not just karate.
Like no other martial art, all of Kissaki Kai's techniques and bunkai are based on these rules or priniples.

Law Enforcement Training (LETS Int.)
Based on the Rules of Combat, Vince Morris has also developed law enforcement training:
LETS provides practical and effective officer protection, arrest and control procedures which are used daily
in Police Forces and Special Forces around the world.
Easily integrated into existing training regimes, LETS techniques have a formidable record of success over
many years!
Courses available on site (Police Academies etc.) or at the HQ training center in New Jersey, USA. for groups
and individuals.
... I have been a Police Officer for over 22 years, and have been trained a number of times
in various defensive tactics, including unarmed techniques, Kubotan, PR 24 (tonfa), and aerosol devices. I
have received training in these areas in the past from the F.B.I., the West Virginia State Police Academy,
local law enforcement agencies, and martial arts instructors. Your training was by far the best that I have
ever had, period. Your techniques were invariably easy to learn yet always effective, and your hands-on
instructional approach lends total confidence in one's ability to be able to actually use the techniques in
the field, and what the end result of a properly applied move will be. I now have a whole new "bag of
tricks" to take out on the streets with me, and I really do feel a lot more confident in my ability to
swiftly and decisively handle an opponent at close quarters.

Testimonials
... Typical training involves continuous repetition of boring kihon... This not correct
karate and it is not interesting. Because of it in Russia there are lot of black belts without knowledge.
These people do not understand karate but are the instructors! ...meeting with Vince Morris has changed my
life. I have found that... my students have ceased to be robots. They have begun to understand karate.
V. M., 3rd Dan, Russia
'Sensei Morris, I would like to thank you for the seminar.... It really opened my eyes as
to the secrets behind kihon. As an educator, I would like to compliment you on your teaching style. It was
very easy to learn from you, especially with over 60 students training at the time. I'm sure that you get
many of these and probably do not need another, but I was very impressed. Thank You, '

'Hello Vince,
As a member of Antwerp police I was fortunate enough to be part of the September training session, ...
Since the situation is aggravating rapidly in Antwerp, your tactics got me out of trouble more than
once, .... many thanks,'
van Achter, Filip
'Hello Morris sensei
I recently borrowed a copy of Kyusho Secrets from a new student of mine and was stunned by your insight.
Why do you want to read on? You don't have to of course, but I need to share this glimpse of blinding light
which reading your book has caused.
My new student is 4th dan Taekwondo but wants 'Okinawan karate' so he forced me out of retirement (teaching
that is) to give him the stuff. (please note that I don't hide anything under any bushels anymore, time is
short and so much to teach). I was never much of a sport fighter as I got fed up in the end with all the
broken ribs, toes, fingers, cheek bones, swollen shins and fists....
At 57 I am embarking on a new excitement, that of running a dojo where the students actually thirst for what
I want to teach. It's such an honour and I have to be careful with my new day-time students, to give them
the truth. But I realise that I have still much to learn apart from kata and bunkai, a sort of bringing
together of all my training, thoughts on karate philosophy, why do it, flowing techniques, all that
stuff. ...
I must go now as I have already bored you long enough, but thanks for being who you are and I hope you
can pass on your knowledge of real karate for years to come.
Best Regards'
'With regard to the very first program on Third Part Defence Close Quarter Battle Techniques which you
presented for us in Jacksonville, Florida. This is the program on defensive tactics for personnel engaged
in the personal protection of others. There is no question about it. I have observed and participated in
a great variety of programs for several decades in the protective field and nothing has impressed me as
much as this one.
The program allows the coverage of the principle from any position, direction or angle. It provides instant
pain, compliance and immediate protection in a third party defensive situation. If there is a problem, it
is met with an appropriate, not permanent response, allowing the principle to be protected, covered and
evacuated without continuing engagement by the protector with the attacker/problem.
I believe through your absolutely thorough study, knowledge and subsequent application of your defensive
tactics, and martial arts skills you have blended them into the correct application for personal protection
specialists.
It will be a distinct pleasure to work with you in the future in the continuation of these programs.
With respect,'

'I just finished viewing your Paladin video, "One Strike,One Kill," and I just wanted to
drop you a note telling you how much I enjoyed it. Rarely have I found bunkai explanations as well thought
out and practical as the ones you give in your tape. It is an excellent tape.
Respectfully,'

'Dear Sensei Morris:
I would like to thank you very much for the great seminar we had, in Michigan last March.
The content was exactly what I was expecting; in other words: an eye opener and a deep introspection of
true application of karate techniques.
I truly appreciated your dedication to studying in dept real meaning and genuine bunkai, and sharing it
with other karate practitioners. Your great sense of communicating and pedagogy makes it more interesting
and dynamic.
I will recommend your seminars to any true and serious karate student.
I also would like to tell you that I enjoyed meeting you, and hope that we will see each other in a near
future. I think that we will have some opportunities to work together and I am really looking forward to
it. Sincerely your friend,'

...What a refreshing view of the application of those techniques, rather than the standard
ones that our instructors had previously showed us, and we believed to be so effective... Your approach to
self-defence through Kata, proves that within the Kata is truly where most all application originates. The
history of which masters introduced which Kata, why certain Kata were practised in the manner they were,
and what the results would be are much clearer than the standard answers we were given. We are anxiously
waiting for more study and training with the Kissaki Kai Karate-Do Organisation. '
N. P. - Chairman, Michigan Karate Association USA
'Prior to attending one of Sensei Morris' seminars, I had seen one of his tapes and talked to a couple of
people who had been to a seminar, so I was expecting good things. My expectations, however, fell far short
of reality! The way he incorporates Kyusho knowledge with practical self-defence techniques is a real
pleasure to see. I learned a great deal that I will be able to incorporate into our school's training
program. While he comes from a Shotokan background, and many of the techniques he teaches are taken from
Shotokan Kata, Vince concentrates on common principles based on anatomical knowledge that underlie all
martial arts. ... I sincerely recommend his seminars to all martial artists, regardless of style. My only
regret after the seminar is that he is now on his way back to England, and it will probably be a long time
before I get to train with him again.'
