 Kissaki is karate for the REAL world
The sword was considered to be the "Soul" of the Samurai, and the blade itself a venerated object of both beauty
and deadly efficiency; a fusion of harmony and function.
The Kissaki is the term for the deadly sharp cutting edge of the very tip.
Kissaki-Kai Karate-Do was founded by Vince Morris, now 8th Dan of Nottingham, Great Britain in March 1993 at the
behest of senior black belt members who had become disillusioned with what the "traditional" karate schools had
to offer in terms of "real" fighting techniques.
At most, many karate schools boasted that they were champions of this and that competition, and they were just
that, champions of a competition, where rules and regulations prohibited the use of real, effective techniques
in the sporting arena. And rightly so, as these techniques were highly dangerous and some even lethal when
applied properly.
'Kissaki Kai is not like fighting an opponent, it is an execution.'
Kissaki Kai has taken karate back to its origins, past the point-scoring sports forms, and right back to the art
of self-defense it once was.
Kissaki teaches the fundamental 5 elements of Combat.
- Ne-waza - Groundwork, grappling
- Nage-waza - Throwing techniques
- Atemi-waza - Vital point striking
- Shime-waza - Choking techniques
- Kansetsu-waza - Joint Locking Techniques
The application of these waza are being guided by the Rules of Combat and the bunkai (applications) hidden in the
ancient kata.
...I encourage you to spread the word regarding the value of Kata training and what it
really teaches a student. Too many karateka think that there is fighting and then there is kata for "form".
Kata is fighting.....the problem as I see it is that much of the true knowledge that Kata is trying to
teach has been obscured by years of myth and misunderstanding by most instructors. I hope that with the
expansion of the internet and the opening up of communications between martial artists, we can all have
availability to your instruction.

About Vince Morris

The Rules of Combat
Rules of Combat - The Development Of Warrior Tactics
Described as a "Modern Book of Five Rings" it serves as a guide for students and instructors on the journey to
principle based training and mastery of their skills.
All fights, large battles or individual encounters, follow certain rules. And if you know the rules, you can win
any fight. Here are some examples:
Rule #4: Never stop until it's over - Would you walk away from a fight in which the assailant still has a
weapon and can use it against you again?
Rule #7: Never fight at the same speed - Do not let a fight deteriorate into a one-for-one exchange of
blows. Once you have started your techniques, the assailant should have no window of opportunity to regain
the initiative.
Rule #12: A lock is only a prelude - In many dojos techniques are only practiced in isolation. For a more
realistic training you must remember that a hold or a lock is often only a prelude to control or finish, not the
control or finish itself.
The Rules of Combat can help you to structure your techniques in a way that maximises your chances to win any
confrontation. These rules are principles that can be applied to any martial art, not just karate.

'Hello Morris sensei
I recently borrowed a copy of Kyusho Secrets from a new student of mine and was stunned by your insight.
Why do you want to read on? You don't have to of course, but I need to share this glimpse of blinding light
which reading your book has caused.
My new student is 4th dan Taekwondo but wants 'Okinawan karate' so he forced me out of retirement (teaching
that is) to give him the stuff. (please note that I don't hide anything under any bushels anymore, time is
short and so much to teach). I was never much of a sport fighter as I got fed up in the end with all the
broken ribs, toes, fingers, cheek bones, swollen shins and fists....
At 57 I am embarking on a new excitement, that of running a dojo where the students actually thirst for what
I want to teach. It's such an honour and I have to be careful with my new day-time students, to give them
the truth. But I realise that I have still much to learn apart from kata and bunkai, a sort of bringing
together of all my training, thoughts on karate philosophy, why do it, flowing techniques, all that
stuff. ...

'With regard to the very first program on Third Part Defence Close Quarter Battle Techniques which you
presented for us in Jacksonville, Florida. This is the program on defensive tactics for personnel engaged
in the personal protection of others. There is no question about it. I have observed and participated in
a great variety of programs for several decades in the protective field and nothing has impressed me as

The program allows the coverage of the principle from any position, direction or angle. It provides instant
